You will think that I am some totalitarian person when you read this title, but I can explain. To live in a society that is a democratic one, we must have laws. But not all societies that have laws are democratic ones. Nazi Germany had laws, and we can certainly see that they weren’t democratic. Today, most of the countries in the world are democratic or almost democratic. Some are exceptions, but there is nothing we can do. To live in the democratic society, we must have laws that respect human rights and freedoms. The recipe for a good state that has good laws is the presence of a high democratic awareness and the knowledge of human rights. Some laws in some world countries don’t or at least in practice don’t respect even basic human rights.

The Law SocietyThese things are present in countries that are not developed politically. To have good laws, we must have good politicians that will vote and make a good law. As we all know, history is full of bad politicians and bad laws. Our job is to be aware and to recognize a bad law when we see one. People need to understand that although we must obey laws, we need to think about them and make our judgment about them. Some people think that we should ban weapons. Tell that to hunters or police and military personnel, and they will start laughing. They will tell you that weapons will save their lives and the lives of others. But they can also use those weapons for destruction. It all comes down to the point of view.

Law shapes our society

Law

This statement is true. Laws will make us behave in a way they dictate. For instance, you know that you can’t attack someone on the street. You know that you can’t attack someone on the street because it is not normal and it is wrong. And of course, it is illegal. So as you can see, things that are bad and immoral will usually be forbidden. That is not the case with all laws. We all know that prostitution is forbidden in almost all states in the America. But we can still see that it is present. Cannabis oil is banned in some countries even though it is proven that they can cure some forms of cancer. So as you can see, laws can sometimes be good, and sometimes they can be totally stupid.

What about you?

Well, as every good citizen you are required to obey the laws in your state. If you don’t like a law or many laws, you can always organize a petition, or you can vote for a candidate that you think will change the law that is bad in your opinion.
